This 40-day guide will help you give thanks to God with scriptures reference for each day.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Defining Thankfulness
When it comes to giving thanks, there are many different ways to do so. Whether you say a quick prayer before a meal or write out a list of things you’re grateful for each day, taking the time to be thankful is always beneficial. But what exactly is thankfulness?
Being thankful means more than just having a positive attitude. It’s about acknowledging all the good in your life, even during tough times. When you’re feeling down, take a step back and look at everything you have to be thankful for. From your health to your family and friends, there’s always something to appreciate.
Practicing thankfulness can also help improve your mental and physical health. Studies have shown that people who are regularly thankful have lower levels of stress and anxiety, better sleep patterns, and improved heart health.
Day 1: Give Thanks to God for Creation
Verse of the day. Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, 2 for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.
In a world that is often filled with negativity, it is important to remember to give thanks for the positive things in life. One of the most amazing things to be thankful for is God’s creation. The beauty of nature, the mystery of the universe, and the gift of life itself are all examples of God’s creative power.

When we take time to appreciate these things, we are reminded that there is more to life than what we can see and touch. We are also reminded of God’s love for us. So take a moment today to give thanks for God’s creation. It is an incredible gift that we should never take for granted.
Day 2: Give Thanks to God for the Great Things He Has Done
Verse of the day. 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This verse is a reminder to us that we should always be thankful to God, no matter what our circumstances are.
In our lives, we often take things for granted and forget to give thanks to God for all the great things he has done. We get caught up in our daily routine and stop looking at the world around us with wonder and appreciation. But when we take a step back and reflect on all that God has done for us, we can’t help but be filled with gratitude.
God has blessed us in so many ways. He has given us life, love, family, friends, and so much more.

Day 3: Give Thanks to God for Divine Healing
Verse of the day. Psalm 103:1-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, 3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
No matter what life throws our way, we should always give thanks to God for His divine healing. From the smallest of injuries to the biggest of illnesses, God is always there to help us heal.
Though we may not always understand why we get sick or hurt, we can trust that God has a plan for our healing. He knows what we need and when we need it. Sometimes, all we need is a little bit of rest and relaxation. Other times, we may need surgery or medication. But no matter what, we can be confident that God will help us through it.
So next time you’re feeling under the weather, remember to give thanks to God for His divine healing power. Thank Him for His care and love, and trust that He will see you through whatever comes your way. So today take time to give thanks to God for your divine healing.

Day 4: Give Thanks to God for Peace of Mind
Verse of the Day: Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
When life gets tough, it can be difficult to keep a positive outlook. It’s easy to get caught up in our own problems and forget that there is a higher power at work. But no matter what challenges we face, we should always remember to give thanks to God for peace of mind.
God has a plan for each and everyone one of us. Sometimes we might not understand what He is doing, but we have to trust that His plan is for our good. When we give thanks to God, even in the midst of trials, we are reminded that He is in control. This can help us to let go of our worry and stress, and find peace in His presence.
Giving thanks is also a way of showing our faith. It shows that we believe that God is good and that He will work everything out for our benefit.

Day 5: Give Thanks to God for Family
Verse of the day. 1 John 4:20 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot[a] love God whom he has not seen.
It’s easy to take our families for granted. We get wrapped up in our own lives and problems and forget to count our blessings. But today, let’s take a moment to give thanks to God for our families.
Think about all the ways your family has blessed you. They’ve been there for you in good times and bad, they love you unconditionally, and they support you no matter what. They’ve helped you become the person you are today. So this Thanksgiving, let’s express our gratitude to God for our families.
Take a moment to pray for your family members. Thank God for their health, their happiness, and their place in your life. Ask Him to bless them. And commit to being a better family member yourself.

Day 6: Give Thanks to God for Answered Prayers
Verse of the day. Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you, (B)and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
When we think about all the answered prayers in our lives, we have so much to be thankful for. We can thank God for His goodness, love, and faithfulness. He has always been there for us, even when we didn’t know it.
When we thank God for answering our prayers, we are acknowledging his power and presence in our lives. We are affirming that he is always with us, no matter what challenges we face.
Thanking God for answered prayers is a way of showing our faith and trust in him. It is a way of saying that even when things seem impossible, we know that with God anything is possible.
Remember to rest on His promise. Isaiah 65:24 Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.

Day 7: Give Thanks to God for Fighting Our Battles
Verse of the day. Psalm 124 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side— let Israel now say— 2 if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, 3 then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; 4 then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; 5 then over us would have gone the raging waters. 6 Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth!
When we face difficulties and trials in life, it’s easy to feel alone and helpless. We may think that we have to fight our battles all on our own. But the truth is, God is always with us, fighting our battles for us.
Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” This means that no matter what we’re facing in life, God is there with us, giving us the strength and help we need to get through it.
So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges, remember that you’re not alone. God is with you, fighting your battles for you. Give thanks to Him for His protection and provision in your life.

Day 8: Give Thanks to God for His Protection
Verse of the day: Psalms 91:4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
When it comes to protection, we can always count on God. Psalm 91:4 tells us that “he will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.” In a world that is full of chaos and uncertainty, we can take comfort in knowing that we have a loving Father who wants nothing more than to keep us safe.
Isaiah 54:17 says, “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.” This verse is a reminder that no matter what challenges or trials we face in life, God will always be there to protect us.
So today, let us give thanks to God for his divine protection.
Day 9: Give thanks to God for His Guidance
Verse of the day Psalms 23: 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Give thanks to God for his guidance. Even though it might not have felt like it at times, God has led you through this year and helped you navigate the traps of the enemy.
He has been your strength when you were weak and your light in the darkness. Trust that God will continue to guide you through whatever comes your way.
Psalm 23 says, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

And when we consider the greatest gift that He has ever given us, there is no doubt that it is His Son, Jesus Christ. Through Jesus, we have access to God and all that He has for us.

Verse of the day: 1 Corinthians 1:24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
God’s wisdom is far greater than our own. Through His wisdom, He has delivered us from evil and directed us on the right path. He has given us the ability to see things from His perspective and to understand His ways.

We are truly blessed to have received such wisdom from Him. Let us give thanks to God for His wisdom and praise Him for all that He has done for us!
Daniel 1:17 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
Day 12: Give Thanks to God for His Faithfulness
Here’s the verse for today: Numbers 23:19 God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

The Bible is filled with stories of God’s faithfulness, even when His people were unfaithful. In the book of Hosea, we see a perfect example of this. Hosea was called by God to marry an unfaithful woman, Gomer. Hosea remained faithful to his wife even though she was constantly unfaithful to him.
This is a picture of God’s faithfulness to us even when we are unfaithful to Him. The Bible tells us that we are to give thanks to God for His faithfulness, even when we have been unfaithful to Him.
Day 13: Give Thanks to God for Strength in Difficult Times
Verse of the day: Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
In the midst of a storm, it can be difficult to remember that God is in control. But Jesus calms the storm and perfects His guidance through it. Psalm 46:10 reminds us to “Be still, and know that I am God.”
In the midst of our difficulties, we can find strength in God by giving thanks to Him. Let us remember to give thanks to God for His strength, even in the most difficult times.

Psalm 46:10 10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Day 14: Give Thanks to God for His Forgiveness
Verse of the day: 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
When we sin, we are separated from God. We are unable to experience His love and forgiveness. However, when we repent and turn back to Him, He is willing and able to forgive us. His forgiveness is a gift that we can receive when we ask for it.

When we receive God’s forgiveness, it should fill us with gratitude. We should be thankful that He is willing to forgive us, no matter how many times we sin.
His forgiveness is evidence of His great love for us. It is also an opportunity for us to start fresh and live a life that pleases Him.
Let us never take God’s forgiveness for granted. Instead, let us give thanks to Him whenever we experience His loving forgiveness.

Whatever the case may be, know that God has not forgotten about you. He has given you opportunities in the past and He will continue to do so in the future.

When we sit down to feast on a sumptuous meal, it is only natural that we give thanks to the one who prepared it. But how often do we remember to give thanks to the one who sustains us day in and day out?
Just as our bodies need food and water to survive, so our souls need sustenance from God to thrive.

The psalmist tells us, “Taste and see that the Lord is good” Psalm 34. When we take time to slow down and savor all the good things in life, we can’t help but be filled with gratitude for the One who provides them.
Whether it’s a warm cup of coffee on a cold morning or a sunny day after a long winter, each moment is a gift from God.

Some fathers may not be as good as others, but that doesn’t mean we should forget about them.
