The names, titles, and descriptions of God in the Bible are a representation of who He is in all seasons.

Any time God manifests Himself to someone He reveals either His name, His nature or His Plan.

Depending on your current situation God might choose to reveal Himself to you in a way that shows who He is in that situation or season.

In this post, I will share the names, titles, and descriptions of who God is and How He reveals Himself in the Bible.

These are the 12 main names and titles of God, Elohim, El Shaddai, Jehovah Rophe, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Shalom, Jehovah Makadesh, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Jire, Adonai, Jehovah Rohi, Jehovah Tsidkenu, and Yahweh.

Old Testament

El Shaddai – God Almighty

Genesis 17:1 NIV

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.

Creator of heaven and earth

Genesis 14:19

19 and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
    Creator of heaven and earth.

Most High-

Genesis 14:22 NIV

But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth

God Who Sees

Genesis 16:13 (NIV)

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”

Judge of all the earth

Genesis 18:25 (NIV)

Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”


The Lord Who Heals You-Jehovah-Rapha

Exodus 15:26

26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.”


The Lord Will Provide-Jehovah Jireh

Genesis 22:14 NIV

So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”




A Faithful God

Deuteronomy 32:4 NIV

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright, and just is he.




Jehovah shalom

Judges 6:24

24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord, and called it Jehovah shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

1 Samuel 24:15

Psalms 9:9 NIV

The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

If you are in trouble or oppressed you can call the name of our God who is a refuge and stronghold for the oppressed in times of trouble.


An ever-present help in trouble

Psalm 46:1

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.


A father to the fatherless

Psalms 68:5 NIV

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.



A Glorious Crown

Isaiah 28:5 NIV

In that day the LORD Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of his people.


A Refuge for the Poor

Isaiah 25:4

You have been a refuge for the poor,
a refuge for the needy in their distress,
a shelter from the storm
    and a shade from the heat.
For the breath of the ruthless
    is like a storm driving against a wall


A source of strength

Isaiah 28:6 NIV

He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.


Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born, to us, a son is given,
    and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jeremiah 10:10

Joel 3:16

A Jealous God- Avenging God

Nahum 1:2 NIV

Emmanuel –

Bridegroom –

Son of Mary –

Mark 6:3

Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

Son of the Most High

Luke 1:32 (ESV)

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,

Voice of the Lord
